People living in different sectors of Rutsiro District have started different businesses since they got electricity last year. 

The Manager of Rwanda Energy Group (REG) branch in Rutsiro District, Eng. Bakenerinzungu Dominique, said during the last year, REG connected to the grid 5236 households exceeding the 2100 targeted connections for the year, a performance which was awarded by a trophy to the branch. 

From July 2018, the branch has already connected 2,821 households and more are about to be connected. 

“The area has developed tremendously. Schools, health centers, business centers, offices and industries are now using this electricity and it has improved their services and production. People no longer need to travel long distances to get some services such as haircutting or doors welding. It’s all done from here”, he said. 

As of today, 13.9% of households in Rutsiro District have electricity. As per the Government of Rwanda’s target, all households will be connected by 2024.
